The revised rear-end mold changes are close to complete. |
|
February 12, 2005 The engineering team has been working feverishly on ensuring a summer 2005 launch for the GTM Supercar project. As chassis testing and functional testing continues, the molding and shaping projects are also near completion.
We made a major change to the rear clip of the car, adding more aerodynamic and cleaner lines to the shape. We are unveiling this new shape to customers today at our annual Moochfest to get an idea of what folks think of this shape over the previous rear end design. |
|
Please remember this car shown here is not a car, it is a mold plug, that is, this is the substrate or base shape master that we will use to make the final molds that will produce the production composite parts. This is not a finished product and is shown here only to give people a sneak peek at the new integrated rear-end shape.
Status Report: The GTM project nears production as we have tooling and some additional functional testing that remain. Not all configuration questions have been answered, but the remaining items are small and should not delay launch.
The side windows are planned to be roll-up glass design as we have several versions that are being developed. The mold plug here does not show the front nose splitter/diffuser, the rear venturi and the final wheel well openings. The front end is undergoing some minor changes to accommodate the larger wheel well openings needed following chassis changes and functional testing. |
|
The exhaust will exit the area proximate to the license plate brackets (to the sides). The leading edge of the base of the windshield will receive less flare and the headlight openings may move slightly for a cleaner look and correct height.
The side scoops after the doors are functional on the car. The passenger scoop is for the a/c radiator and the driver side is for the engine cool air intake. |

More to come as we approach production. ?
