Amp=D's '33 Hot Rod
at SEMA 2009 FFR Showcases an
Electric Hot Rod in Their SEMA Booth
The Amp=D
built battery powered Hot Rod was the covered
extensively by the press at this year's SEMA Show.
For us, the real excitement will come in the weeks
and months ahead as the car is tested against some
of today's fastest cars. Amp=D's Dr. Mike
North explains the details of this remarkable car in
a YouTube video from the floor of SEMA 2009. A
quick Google search for "Factory Five Hot Rod SEMA"
will bring up tons eco/green sites and forums
covering this important car.
One of the most talked about cars at SEMA this year was the
electric powered FFR ’33 Hot Rod built by AMP=D.
Powered by a Power Phase 225 kW
electric motor with twin 440v A123 batteries the car has 600ft./lbs of torque
which blew everyone’s mind.
Not only is the car
environmentally friendly but it has performance ability as well. The ’33 can go
for a hundred miles between charges which is a good distance and perfect for the
average commute. The car was designed using SolidWorks Software, so the
precision of the design was second to none.
AMP=D is a great group of guys
that paid particular attention to detail and their build came out stellar! With
its glossy grey paint job and black interior the car looked killer next to Rob
Kinanas ’33 Hot Rod.
Dr. Mike North explains the
details behind the electric UQM motor and A123 battery packs
that provide the push for the green rod.
