Glenn B.’s Coupe & Rally North America Drives $200k for Camp Sunshine

Factory Five has a way of connecting good people across the country through the vessel of building your own car. Glenn B. from just outside of Hershey, PA stopped by with his Gen 2 Type 65 Coupe after helping to raise nearly $200,000 for Camp Sunshine during a charity road trip. The charity, Camp Sunshine enriches the lives of children with cancer and their families through year-round support programs in Casco, Maine.

Background

Glenn’s Type 65 Coupe is the perfect, road-warrior in its gel-coat form, decked out in stickers from roadtrips and charity support galore. While his mechanical abilities have grown, Glenn was originally a computer programmer who dreamed of building his own car. Glenn says, “I’ve had a THING for the Coupe since I saw a picture of the car in Road & Track magazine. This car had just won the GT class at Le Mans and took the Manufacturers Championship from Ferrari.

My interest in kit cars started in the early 1970s. I dreamed of a fiberglass-skinned, mid-engine, small block Chevy-powered GT car. I’ve had a passion for long-distance driving on the open road since I got my first set of wheels in 1966. Rally North America now feeds that passion.

These dreams are being realized in this heavily modified Factory Five Type 65 Coupe. After seven years of construction, it became registered and road-legal in 2022. After many shakedown drives and enhancements, it made a trouble-free voyage from Hershey, PA, to the Golden Gate Bridge, mostly via the Lincoln Highway. This was followed by a 1,500-mile road rally on the backroads of Appalachia. The car has proven itself to be a very worthy road trip ride: comfortable enough, reliable enough, and ready for some insanity at the press of the loud pedal. I LOVE driving this car!”
